The Supreme Council, 33°, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, USA (“Supreme Council”) offers the Shepherd Scholarship to individuals to pursue advanced education.

Each year, the Supreme Council offers Shepherd Scholarships of $2,000 per year for tuition costs for a maximum of four years OR upon earning a degree, if that be sooner. The number of scholarships awarded is dependent upon the earnings of the Shepherd Scholarship Fund. The objective of this scholarship is to aid worthy candidates in obtaining baccalaureate or graduate degrees in fields associated with service to country and generally perceived as benefiting the human race.

Eligibility Requirements

U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status

The scholarship is available to United States citizens and U.S. permanent residents only for study at accredited schools within the United States.

Verified Affiliation with a Masonic Youth Organization or the Scottish Rite, SJ, USA

Each applicant must complete the Verification of Scottish Rite Eligibility Form (part of the application form) and receive eligibility confirmation before the application will be reviewed.

Eligibility will be confirmed by the Office of the Grand Executive Director if the applicant:

1. Is a Member in good standing of the A. & A. Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction, USA, with its headquarters located at 1733 16th St. NW, Washington, DC 20009;


2. Has one of the following relationships to a current or deceased member in good standing of the A. & A. Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction, USA, with its headquarters located at 1733 16th St. NW, Washington, DC 20009:

  • Spouse
  • Sibling*
  • Child*
  • Grandchild*

* by marriage, birth, or operation of law (e.g., adoption)


3. Is a Member of a Masonic Youth organization:

  • DeMolay International
  • International Order of Rainbow for Girls
  • Job’s Daughters International

Education Prerequisite

Applicant must have a 3.0 minimum grade point average.

Acceptance at Accredited Institution

While one may apply for the scholarship in advance, if a scholarship is awarded—before any payments are made—applicants MUST be accepted for enrollment at accredited institutions of higher learning that are authorized to grant degrees in the selected field of study.

Application & Deadline

Applications must be submitted online to the Office of the Grand Executive Director, Supreme Council, 33°, Southern Jurisdiction, USA. Only applications submitted online will be considered.


The application period is January 22–April 6, 2020.

Please scan your complete transcripts of course grades, and at least three (3), but not more than four (4) letters of recommendation, and include them with your application. All scans must be submitted in PDF format. Please make sure that each of your attachments are 12 MB, or less, in size.

Use of Cookies, Storage of Information, and Saving Your Application Form Progress

Please note that when you select “Submit” to send us your scholarship application, your data will be uploaded and stored securely on our web server.

If you want to interrupt the application process and continue filling out the application form at another time, you need to enable the “progressive save” feature by selecting the “Save and Continue Later” button.* By doing so, your data will be stored on our web server. You will receive a link to your data file so that you can continue the application process at a later time. (Please note that any PDF transcripts you have included in the form at that point WILL NOT be saved, and you will need to re-attach them prior to clicking “Submit.”) You can copy and paste the link to save it on your own computer or you can elect to have the link to your form data sent to you by email. The link can be used on any computer or mobile device and will expire after 30 days.

Selection Process

Selections will be made each year during the month of April.

Selectees will be those who are best qualified by dedication, ambition, academic preparation, financial need, and promise of outstanding performance at the advanced level. Final selections and appointments will be at the sole discretion and determination of the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council.


All applicants will be informed of their selection status via mail by July 1, 2020.

If you are selected to receive a scholarship sponsored by the Supreme Council, by submitting this application, you, your parent(s) and/or your legal guardian(s) consent to the publishing on our web site, via our social media sites, and in our publications, your name, photograph, city and state where you reside, name of the scholarship of which you are a recipient, your major, and the university/college where you plan to undertake your studies. This information may be published nationally or internationally.
